Abstract
Abstract This paper examines the goals and purposes of American punishment and prison system. In recent times the United States of America has suffered terrorist attacks, highly publicized murders, abductions, rampant corporate crime and government scandal. Generally, there has been an effort in recent years to bring the justice system to the American people. The interest of the American people in their justice system is evident by the popularity of televised trials, jurisprudence based television, and an entire daily broadcast of Court Television.
