bepress Legal Working Paper Series
Frustrated by the inefficiencies and expenses of academic journals, Professor Bob Cooter and Aaron Edlin started bepress journals in 1996. A similar frustration with existing working paper outlets led us to launch the bepress Legal Repository in July 2004. As the new kid on the block we would like to share with you why our service offers a best value for law schools looking to establish legal working paper series to promote the scholarly research of their faculty.

What we offer institutions:
- An attractive, easy-to-navigate site that will increase the visibility your faculty and their papers.
- Prestigious members like the American Law and Economics Association. To see all of our dozens of members please explore our legal repository.
- Low prices- the typical bepress Legal Repository participant pays 2 to 4 times less than what most schools are paying SSRN.
- A mass mailing service based upon a large network of legal scholars that is several times greater than any other service. Papers posted in your series will be exposed to a growing network of tables of contents alert recipients--17,000 plus strong and growing.
- Custom alerts to interested parties. In addition to our mass mailing service, legal scholars are signing up to receive weekly notices of newly posted content. Readers can set these alerts to cover a specific series (e.g., University of Virginia Public Law and Legal Theory Papers) or a specific subject area (Civil Rights, International Law, etc.) that draws content from across institutions. Your papers are thus pushed to interested parties in a number of different ways.
- Better solution for paper loading. Posting papers to the bepress Legal Repository is quick and easy. We convert Word or WordPerfect files to PDF on your behalf. We also have designed it so you can make a paper available immediately, while with SSRN you must wait for an SSRN employee to post it. The easy and quick posting (~3 minutes) has led to the publishing of more than 1,200 legal manuscripts in just the first three months.
- Prominent placement of your school's logo, the series editor, and a link to your law school. This is your working paper site; it is simply hosted by bepress.
What are other schools are doing?
- Many schools have chosen the route of good publicity at low prices. They chose us over SSRN because we deliver a better service, better technology, equivalent results at a much lower price. They can of course still load up papers for free into SSRN subject matter journals.
- Fabulous publicity seekers are schools eager to maximize publicity by purchasing both bepress and SSRN series. This way, more people get notification of their schools research, and some get notification twice, so they are more likely to look.
